How to check a gold purity report by QR code

When you buy from a jeweller on KompasMove, the jeweller tests your piece on a gold testing machine, often called the “computer test” (XRF), usually while you watch, and gives you a Gold Purity Test Report with a QR code. The jeweller issues the report from their own test. KompasMove keeps the record, so anyone can check it later.

Check a report in under a minute

  1. 1Open your phone's camera and point it at the QR code on the report or your receipt.
  2. 2Make sure the page that opens starts with verify.kompasmove.com. A real report is never checked anywhere else.
  3. 3Compare what you see with the paper in your hand: report number, the piece and its photo, karat, purity, weights, test date, the shop that issued it and the customer's name.
  4. 4Read the result at the top of the page: VALID, REVOKED or REPLACED (explained below).

What the result means

VALIDThe jeweller issued this report and has not withdrawn it. The details shown are exactly what was recorded when it was issued; they cannot be edited afterwards.
REPLACEDThe jeweller found a mistake and issued a corrected report. The page links to the current one. Use the corrected report.
REVOKEDThe jeweller withdrew the report, with the date shown. Do not rely on it, and contact the shop.
No certificate foundThe link is wrong, incomplete or not a real report. Check you scanned the right code, then contact the shop that gave it to you.

What the machine test can and cannot tell you

The gold testing machine (an XRF analyser) shows which metals are in a piece, and how much of each, in about a minute and without scratching or damaging it. Many jewellers use one.

  • It measures the surface and the layer just below it. Heavy plating or a different metal hidden inside a piece may not show up.
  • The report records one test, at one time, of the piece described. It is not a government hallmark or an independent laboratory certificate.
  • Weights on the report are what the shop's scale showed during the test. Stones are weighed or estimated separately.
  • If something matters a lot to you, for example a large or very old piece, you can ask for a further test such as a fire assay at a laboratory.

Every report carries the jeweller's own wording about these limits.

If a report looks wrong

First contact the shop named on the report: they issued it and can correct or explain it. If you still have a concern, contact KompasMove and we will look into it with the jeweller.

Privacy: the public report page shows the customer's name and the details of the piece and its test. It never shows prices, phone numbers or staff details.
